  • Project Description

TANTRANSCO is an Indian state utility in Tamilnadusituated in southern part of India

The RTU based solution is with hardwire connection between the switch gear equipment and RTU Digital inputs (DI), Digital outputs (DO) and analog inputs (AI) cards. The RTU system also collects the data from the protection relays and energy meters.

The substation RTU system will send the data to the remote control center. The communication from substation RTU system to the remote system is by IEC60-870-104 protocol means of optical ground wire (OPGW).

The protection status, alarms, events are collected from the IEC61850 relays. Modbus communication is used to communicate and collect the data from energy meters. The iGrid iGW gateway in the substation is collecting the relay and meter information. The gateway also synchronises the time from GPS (Global positioning system) system.

The local SCADA system (iGrid iControl) is installed in the substation computer. The SCADA system is used to display the RTU DI, DI and AI status along with relay and meter information. The SCADA feature of Automatic line colouring (ALC) enables to monitor the status of communication system in the RTU system architecture.

The local SCADA shows online status of the substation by means of SLD screen shown in the iControl SCADA. There are also bay wise screens, individual bay screens, metering information screen and architecture screen shown in the SCADA.These screen displays the information of the switch gear equipment and metering details.

    Silent features of this project

  • The SCADA generates the Energy management reports (EMS) as per requirement of the customer. The reports are generated for the energy parameters considering the multiplication factor and metering groups.
  • The reports are flexible to be generated based on user parameters like between dates (covering daily, weekly, monthly), voltage level, bays wise etc. the output is generated in various formats like CSV, HTML, PDF, XLS etc based on user choice.
  • All the standard format reports like tripping reports, daily log sheet, energy loss report, min max report, energy consumption report, voltage variation report etc.
  • The Ethernet switches are IEC61850 complaint managed level 2 grade. The SCADA software is monitoring the switches at each port level status.
  • The SCADA is monitoring the breaker, isolatorstatus through relays. It is also monitoring the alarms, protection status, indication, trip status, transformer tap position etc.
  • The SCADA is performing the control operation by opening or closing the breaker or isolator. The control operations are directed through the Digital output(DI) present in the RTU.
  • The substation auxiliary equipment status like battery charging, battery voltage is shown in the screen.
  • The analog input (AI) in the RTU is used to read the data of transducers, transformer tab position, transformer winding temperature, transformer oil temperature, DC distribution board (DCDB) voltage, AC distribution board (ACDB) voltage
