  • Project Description

AEGCL is an Indian state utility in Assam in north east part of India. This is a 132/33kV substation located in norther part of state. The project is to provide complete substation automation system.

It includes communication with protection relay, energy meters using iGW Gateway and iControl SCADA software. Tosystem sends the data to the remote control center. The local SCADAis used for monitoring and control operation of the switch gear equipment.

The project involves 50 relays communicating in IEC61850, 15 energy meters communicating in Modbus. The project had 5000 tags to be read in Gateway and SCADA. The Gateway is sending the data to remote center on IEC60870-5-104 protocol.

The substation automation system(SAS) system is reading data from substation auxiliary like AC distribution board (ACDB), DC distribution board (DCDB)and battery chargers.

The local SCADA shows online status of the substation by means of SLD screen shown in the iControl SCADA. There are also bay wise screens, individual bay screens, metering information screen and architecture screen shown in the SCADA.These screen displays the information of the switch gear equipment and metering details.

    Silent features of this project

  • All the automation related devices like relays, SCADA servers, Gateway are time Synchronised with the GPS clock using SNTP protocol.
  • The industrial gradeSCADA servers (Main work station and DR work station) are redundancy architecture. The third SCADA server is a engineering work station used for configuration of IED’s and meters.
  • All the communication network is on fiber optics with dual ring topology.
  • The meters are connected in daisy chain method for providing RS-485 network for communication in Modbus.
  • The Ethernet switches are IEC61850 complaint managed level 2 grade. The SCADA software is monitoring the switches at each port level status.
  • The SCADA is monitoring the breaker, isolatorstatus through Bay control unit(BCU). It is also monitoring the alarms, protection status, indication, trip status, transformer tap position etc from 61850 Relays.
  • The SCADA provides the controls for operationof the breakersand isolator. The control operations can be carried out only when interlock conditions are met. The status of interlock condition is also shown in SCADA.
  • The control operations are directed through the bay control unit (BCU) present in each panel.
  • SCADA has also line colouring, the user can switch between Flow based and Energy based.
